이 프로젝트는 기술 혁신의 선두에 선 OpenAI의 가치를 반영한 스마트 오피스 공간으로 설계되었다. 건물은 효율적이고 간편한 업무 처리가 가능하도록 첨단 기술을 활용한 스마트 시스템을 적용하였으며, 사용자 경험을 최우선으로 고려했다. 특히 중간층에는 넓은 오픈 가든 테라스를 배치하여 사옥 이용자들이 잠시 휴식을 취하거나 대화를 나눌 수 있는 개방적이고 자유로운 공간을 마련했다. 이 테라스는 건물의 중심에 위치해 직원 간의 소통과 협업을 활성화하는 역할을 한다. 본 프로젝트는 테크놀로지와 인간의 삶이 조화를 이루는 현대적인 오피스 디자인의 새로운 가능성을 제시한다.
Open AI Office in Pangyo
This project embodies the values of OpenAI, a pioneer in technological innovation, through the design of a smart office space. The building integrates cutting-edge smart systems, enabling users to work efficiently and conveniently, prioritizing an optimized user experience. A key feature is the expansive open garden terrace located at the mid-level, providing an open and inviting space where users can take a break, enjoy meals, or have informal conversations. Positioned at the heart of the building, this terrace fosters communication and collaboration among employees. This project redefines modern office design, demonstrating the harmony between technology and human-centered spaces.
Concept
사옥 설계의 새로운 패러다임: 업무 공간 이상의 회사
회사는 단순히 일만 하는 공간이 아니다. 직원들은 평일 대부분을 사무실에서 보내며, 이는 일주일 중 5일, 하루의 상당 부분을 차지한다. 따라서 회사는 직원들이 가장 오랜 시간을 머무는 공간이자 일과 삶이 조화를 이루는 장소여야 한다. OpenAI 사옥은 이러한 철학을 바탕으로 설계되었다. 업무에 필요한 모든 기능을 하나의 공간에 압축하는 동시에 직원들의 생활 패턴에 맞춘 환경을 조성하여 불필요한 이동과 불편함을 최소화했다. 이곳에서는 단순히 업무만이 아닌 휴식, 소통, 그리고 일상적인 필요를 모두 충족할 수 있다. 회사라는 공간의 정의를 재해석한 OpenAI 사옥은 직원들의 삶의 질을 높이는 새로운 기준을 제시한다.
Redefining Office Design: Beyond a Workplace
An office is more than just a place to work. Employees spend the majority of their weekdays in the office—five out of seven days each week. As such, it becomes the space where they spend the most significant portion of their time. The OpenAI office was designed with this understanding, creating an environment that seamlessly integrates all essential functions into a single space while aligning with the daily rhythms of its users. By minimizing unnecessary movement and inconvenience, the design ensures employees can comfortably meet their needs within the office. Beyond a workplace, the OpenAI office reimagines the corporate environment as a space where work, relaxation, and connection coexist, setting a new standard for enhancing employee well-being.

일반적으로 사옥에서 야외 공간을 이용하려면 옥상이나 1층까지 이동해야 하는 불편함이 있다. 하지만 OpenAI 사옥은 이러한 제한을 극복하고자 메인 오피스 층 사이의 중간층에 야외 가든 테라스를 설계했다. 이 공간은 업무 중간에 자연스럽게 접근할 수 있도록 위치를 최적화하여 직원들에게 휴식, 소통, 식사를 위한 쾌적한 환경을 제공한다. 중간층 가든은 건물의 중심부에 위치해 개방감과 자연 요소를 강조하며, 사내 커뮤니티와 협업 문화를 증진시키는 중요한 역할을 한다.
Traditionally, accessing outdoor spaces in office buildings requires traveling to the rooftop or ground level, posing a common inconvenience. To address this, the OpenAI office incorporates an outdoor garden terrace strategically placed on an intermediate floor between the main office levels. This terrace is designed for seamless accessibility, providing employees with a pleasant environment for relaxation, informal interactions, and meals. Positioned at the heart of the building, the mid-level garden emphasizes openness and integrates natural elements, fostering a collaborative and vibrant workplace culture.
Program
지상 1층부터 3층까지는 카페, 팝업스토어, 그리고 신제품 발표를 위한 오디토리움을 포함한 외부인 출입이 자유로운 공간으로 설계되었다. 4부터 6까지는 보이드로 연결된 개방형 오피스로, 협업과 소통을 촉진하는 환경을 제공한다. 7층은 높은 천장이 뚫린 테라스를 갖추어 휴식과 비공식적인 만남의 장소로 활용된다. 8층부터 11층까지는 보안이 중요한 제품과 정보를 다루는 공간으로, 로봇 훈련을 위한 넓은 공간도 포함하고 있다. 이 설계는 접근성과 기능성, 보안을 조화롭게 결합하여 다양한 요구를 충족한다.
The ground through third floors are open to the public, featuring spaces like a café, pop-up stores, and an auditorium for product launches. Floors four to six open offices connected by a void, fostering collaboration and transparency. The seventh floor boasts a high-ceiling terrace for relaxation and informal gatherings. Floors eight to eleven are dedicated to secure operations, handling sensitive products and information. These levels also accommodate robot training, requiring expansive spaces. The design balances accessibility, functionality, and security to meet diverse needs.
